Render Scape FAQ
The useful details, without the guesswork.
Is Render Scape a video wallpaper player?
No. It draws animated scenes in real time using the graphics processor in your Mac. Some scenes combine that motion with still background artwork.
Which scenes are included?
Matrix Rain, Snowfall, Ashfall, Aquarium, and Fireplace. Apple’s Metal graphics technology renders the snow, fish, fire and other live effects in real time. Scene-specific sliders control snow amount, fish population, Matrix Rain density, motion and depth; Matrix Rain also offers color palettes. Static artwork provides some backgrounds.
Does it work on Intel Macs?
Live animation requires Apple Silicon. Intel Macs use still-image wallpaper, not the live renderer. The current app targets macOS 13 or later; desktop widgets require a compatible macOS version.
Why has the wallpaper stopped moving?
The current version pauses animation on battery. It can also hold a still image because of Pause, Reduce Motion, or power and thermal safety rules. Eligible AC power allows animation to resume. See troubleshooting.
Will my own photos animate?
No. Imported photos stay still. They can be included in your wallpaper selection or rotation.
Does it replace my macOS wallpaper?
No. Quit Render Scape to reveal the system wallpaper underneath. Closing the settings window alone does not quit the app.
Does Render Scape send my photos or diagnostics to JMM?
Imported photos stay on your Mac. The current version has no active diagnostic upload connection. Optional local diagnostics are explained in the privacy policy.
Can I download it now?
